At the end of the first day, we were within a couple of miles of Mt. Wood, and we started looking for a campsite. A strong breeze was blowing and we wanted as much shelter as possible. Unfortunately, we were in the middle of a huge talus field that sloped fairly steeply from East to West. We ended up settling for a relatively flat spot with a little bit of grass growing in it. There wasn't room to set up the tent, so we had to bivvy in the open - luckily, there was no precipitation, although the wind was blowing and the temperature dropped below freezing.
The sunset was beautiful and the stars were spectacular.
