In the morning we continued our descent down the West Rosebud.
Star Lake.
In places the descent got a bit tricky.
In other places it was easy.
And it was always beautiful.
Lower down, we ran into small canyons which were sometimes tricky.
And there were logjam "bridges" to cross.
Near Silver Lake, we came across a small wildfire. It was burning in the duff and had just reached a couple of trees. We spent a while digging out the smoldering duff with an ice axe, and hauling water from the lake to put it out. It's hard to understand the irresponsibility and stupidity of the person who set this fire: the National Forest is under stage 2 fire restrictions, so this fire was illegal; plus it was built right on top of duff. Sigh.
After the fire was dealt with, we continued on down the trail to Island Lake.
There was a bit of hail and rain as we hiked, but it cleared up just before we set up a late camp.
