The morning was windy and the clouds were scudding across the sky.
In the pre-dawn twilight, I was filtering water and watching a dipper hunt, when the North face of Castle Mountain suddenly lit up:
I headed down the West Fork of Rock Creek, past the Silt Lakes.
This giant boulder was precariously supported.
I hiked down out of the rock and ice zone.
Past Shadow Lake ...
... and joined the trail below Sundance Pass.
Only my boot prints and pika tracks on the trail this day.
A last view of Omega Pass from the top of Sundance Pass. Whitetail Peak is on the left, and Castle Mountain on the right.
Looking East into the Lake Fork drainage from the top of Sundance Pass.
September Morn Lake on a September afternoon (photo taken as 12:25PM ... missed it by that much :-)
September Morn outlet stream.
First Rock Lake and Second Rock Lake.
The wild raspberries were ripe and tasty.
I hiked out along the beautiful Lake Fork of Rock Creek.
Another great hike in the Beartooths!
